    Drive-In Rack in Galt, CA

When seasonal batches accumulate in Galt, drive-in rack can turn repeated pallets into deep reserve storage without assigning an aisle to every row. The strongest fit is many pallets of relatively few SKUs, with a retrieval sequence that tolerates limited individual access. Density must be balanced against batch availability.

At a building in Galt Industrial Park, the layout should separate incoming agricultural distribution loads from pallets already assigned to reserve lanes. For an operation receiving via Twin Cities Road, staging and checking space should remain visible on the drawing. Lane depth follows those handling needs rather than absorbing every open portion of the receiving floor.

Planning Drive-In Pallet Rack Around Batch Flow

    1

    Describe the inventory cycle

List normal and peak pallet quantities by SKU, including batch separation needs. Explain whether reserves leave together or feed smaller withdrawals over a longer shipping period.

    2

    Establish load requirements

Supply maximum pallet weights, loaded dimensions and base construction. Include forklift specifications and the building measurements needed to assess entry turns, rail elevations and available storage height.

    3

    Choose one-ended or two-ended access

Drive-in usually uses LIFO: last in, first out. Drive-thru racking can support FIFO with two accessible faces, loading at one end and retrieving from the other.

    4

    Test the proposed sequence

Walk through receiving, inspection, lane placement and withdrawal on the drawing. Check that a large inbound batch will not block access to stock already scheduled to leave.

Drive-In Rack Rails and Rotation for Bulk Loads

Rail sizing starts with the actual pallet bearing surfaces and heaviest intended load. Bagged products, packaged goods and lighter materials should not inherit a single average assumption. We assess underside geometry, pallet condition, loaded deflection and overhang to establish support spacing. The lane must accommodate consistent placement while providing the bearing needed by each approved pallet format throughout its storage position.

Guide dimensions follow the handling truck's tires, body width and approach requirements. Internal clearances also account for the mast, carriage and load as the pallet is raised and positioned. A generous entrance alone does not establish compatibility deeper in the lane. We review the complete movement, including the turn from the working aisle and withdrawal with a loaded pallet.

Pushback provides another way to consolidate repeated reserve loads. It uses carts and keeps the forklift outside the rack, whereas drive-in requires the truck to enter storage lanes. Both commonly support LIFO handling, but access frequency and pallet compatibility can favor one over the other. Compare those operating differences alongside depth, rather than evaluating the equipment solely by position count.

Cooler and freezer storage can benefit from reduced aisle area when temperatures, finishes, pallets and forklift capability suit the application. For all environments, rotation needs remain decisive: batches requiring earlier withdrawal must not be trapped behind later receipts. Shorter lanes, two-ended access or separate accessible bays may provide the more workable balance. The proposed temperature range must inform material selection rather than follow an assumed ambient specification.

High volume of a small number of SKUs
Seasonal or buffer inventory held in bulk
Cold storage and freezer rooms where cube matters most
Product too fragile to floor-stack more than two high
Buildings where floor space, not height, is the binding constraint

Drive-In Rack for Seasonal Reserve Decisions

We review the peak inventory build alongside the stock held through the rest of the year. A seasonal receipt may justify deep lanes, but the design also needs a plan for lower quantities and changing batches. Grouping inventory by compatible SKU and withdrawal order helps prevent nominal capacity from becoming inaccessible space behind the wrong pallet.

Load weight receives individual attention, particularly when packaging and product density vary. The maximum pallet matters more than a blended average. Forklift fit also includes loaded dimensions and mast movement: the truck drives inside each lane while pallets sit on support rails. The tires stay on the floor; those rails support pallets, not the traveling truck.

Our supplying and installing work dates to 1997 through Warehouse Equipment & Supplies Co., of which we are a division. We bring that background to a clear comparison of storage depth, equipment fit and handling limitations. The proposed arrangement should make seasonal reserve space useful without sacrificing the receiving and withdrawal paths needed around it.
